Over at iSuppli, they’ve taken apart a Samsung Galaxy Tab to reveal exactly what products are being used for production. As a result, we can now see how much money the Galaxy Tab materials are worth, and that is $205.22. Once manufacturing and production costs are taken into account, that number is raised to $214.57. this amount is quite a bit less than the teardown of the 3G iPad, which comes in at $264.27 for the 16GB model.
According to Andrew Rassweiler, director, principal analyst and teardown services manager for iSuppli, “Instead of matching up with the iPad on a feature-by-feature basis, the Galaxy Tab really is larger version of Samsung’s Galaxy S smart phone. While the design approach makes the Galaxy less expensive to produce than the iPad 3G, it also makes for a product that lacks the same usability. The Galaxy Tab’s screen resolution, size and technology are not at the same level as the iPad. This is a critical difference, given the fact that the display is a key differentiating factor for the iPad.”
